Lighting designer to give Sept. 16 talk at WCU
9/2/2008 - Amy Laughead-Riese, senior lighting designer for Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s department stores, will make a presentation from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, in Room 130 of the Fine and Performing Arts Center, on the campus of Western Carolina University.
Laughead-Riese’s presentation, hosted by Western’s School of Art and Design, is free and open to the public.
Laughead-Riese, at right, oversees the development of lighting standards in department stores including Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, and coordinates with design staff to craft lighting as a component of brand identity. She has overseen new construction and renovation projects at Macy’s department stores since 2000.
The lighting designer’s challenge is to incorporate technology and creativity within federal energy codes, design requirements and budget restraints.
Laughead-Riese is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. She holds a bachelor’s degree in interior design from Miami University and a master’s degree in interior design from Virginia Tech.
