Over 1,400 students walk The Honors Path by joining The Honors College at Western Carolina University. They are of all types—from art majors to Teaching Fellows, from intramural Ultimate Frisbee golfers and video gamers to varsity athletes—but they all have one thing in common: the curiosity, character, and will to achieve.
Living in Honors, many students start out in Reynolds or Buchanan Hall, get their academic start with Honors courses or by signing Honors contracts or customizing their courses or majors, and then move ahead with funded undergraduate research or via the interdisciplinary Special Studies degree, Humanities Program, or Pre-Professional Program.
Honors students also may choose to join The Honors College Board of Directors and, working with the dean, run their college in partnership with the off-campus Honors College Advisory Board. When they complete their studies, they wear the Honors Medallion and graduate with The Honors College Diploma.
For more information on life as a WCU Honors student, please contact The Honors College. We look forward to hearing from you.
Below: Part of the group of 40 students heading to the 2008 National Conference on Undergraduate Research meet with the dean and Associate Dean Steve Carlisle to discuss the conference and tips on how to present papers or posters. This year’s team, the sixth largest in the nation at the conference, will present work at Salisbury University and stay on the beach at Ocean City, Maryland.
