Professor selected to judge international film festival
2/25/2008 - Photo of Jack SholderJack Sholder, director of the program in motion picture and television production at Western Carolina University, will serve on the international jury for the film competition at the Fantasporto Oporto International Film Festival.

The festival, which will be held Feb. 29 through March 9, is the largest festival of its kind in Portugal and specializes in fantasy and science-fiction films.

Although Sholder (pictured) has never been to the festival before, his films have. In 1988, Sholder won a best director award for “The Hidden,” which also was nominated in the best film competition. In 2002, “Arachnid,” which he also directed, was a nominee for best film.

Western’s program in motion picture and television production exposes students to the history, craft and art of motion pictures and television while providing hands-on experience with some of the most up-to-date equipment in the industry.

For more information, contact Sholder by phone at (828) 227-2324 or by e-mail at jsholder@wcu.edu.
