Western Carolina University wins recognition, awards and accolades on state, regional and national levels. Recent honors include:

WCU's College of Business included among Princeton Review's '296 Best' (2008)
Western Carolina University’s College of Business has been ranked among the nation’s best schools at which to earn a master’s degree in business administration in a book published by The Princeton Review. WCU’s program earned a top-four spot among schools offering the greatest opportunity for women and receiving high marks for small class sizes.

WCU's online project management program ranked No. 1 'best buy' (2008)
Western Carolina University’s online master’s degree program in project management has been given a No. 1 national ranking in quality and affordability by the distance education information clearinghouse GetEducated.com.

Academic tutoring center earns international certification (2008)
The Catamount Academic Tutoring Center at Western Carolina University recently earned an international certification awarded to tutoring programs that meet or exceed the College Reading and Learning Association’s standards of quality.

Students earn high ranking for National Conference on Undergraduate Research (2008)
For the third year in a row, WCU students rank among the nation’s leaders in the number of research projects accepted for presentation at the country’s most-prestigious undergraduate research conference.

Regional development efforts featured in national magazine (2008)
The January issue of Public Purpose magazine, published by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, cited WCU’s efforts to take regional economic development to a new level in an article titled “Regional Development, Regional Leadership.”

WCU only N.C. institution selected to test sustainability rating system (2008)
WCU is among the 91 colleges and universities from the United States and Canada selected for a pilot study of a Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System.

President’s honor roll for community service recognizes WCU (2008)
The Corporation for National and Community Service named WCU to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service-learning efforts and leadership in building a “culture of civic engagement.”

National survey gives WCU high marks for students’ academic engagement (2007)
WCU’s efforts to ensure that students are fully engaged in the process of learning, both in and out of the classroom, earned high marks on a national survey measuring the quality of undergraduate education based upon student involvement with their studies, professors and campus communities. (Results reported in USA Today.)

Teacher education program wins national Christa McAuliffe Award (2007)
The American Association of State Colleges and Universities honored WCU’s College of Education and Allied Professions with a 2007 Christa McAuliffe Excellence in Teacher Education Award.

WCU’s new faculty reward policies attract national attention (2007)
A faculty promotion and tenure system adopted this fall at WCU rewards faculty who apply their scholarly activities to help solve problems that face the larger community beyond the boundaries of campus. (Program reported in Inside Higher Education.)

A nationally distributed service-learning guidebook for prospective college students features WCU’s service-learning opportunities.
